Presentation

The Tashkent International Arbitration Centre (TIAC) at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan was officially launched at the 2019 edition of PAW, marking a pivotal moment for dispute resolution in the region. As of January 2025, the TIAC caseload has tripled compared to the same period in 2024. Current statistics reveal that the majority of the cases administered by TIAC are international in nature, with non-Uzbek claimants increasingly seeking recourse to TIAC for disputes involving non-Uzbek respondents.

This event will be of particular interest to legal professionals, in-house counsel and anyone engaged in dispute resolution in the CIS region and beyond.

        Tashkent International Arbitration Centre (“TIAC”) is an arbitral institution established by the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan and launched in Paris during PAW in 2019. TIAC prioritises remote, digital and innovation-driven dispute resolution mechanisms and is dedicated to resolving domestic and cross-border commercial disputes irrespective of parties location or place of business. \r\n

        TIAC’s key updates for 2024 are as follows: \r\n

        - The latest statistics for TIAC reveal that as of January 2025, the TIAC caseload has tripled compared to January 2024, which indicates not only a significant increase in the number of cases, but also a growing recognition and acceptance of TIAC as a neutral and efficient forum to resolve commercial disputes in the region and beyond. \r\n
        \r\n
        - The total number of registered cases in 2024 with an international element is 43, but importantly, non-Uzbek claimants are increasingly turning to TIAC for disputes where the respondent is also a non-Uzbek entity, and the percentage of such cases out of the total caseload is 25%. For example, in some of the recently registered cases, the claimant is a company from Korea, and the respondent is from Kazakhstan. \r\n

        - In 2024, Global Arbitration Review nominated TIAC for the prestigious “Best Innovation” award, in recognition of its ground-breaking and unprecedented TIAC-HKIAC Cross-Institutional Rules of Arbitration developed in cooperation with one of the world’s top five arbitration centres - the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre.  \r\n
