Presentation

Emergency arbitration has evolved rapidly in recent years, with institutions expanding emergency-relief mechanisms and the UK’s Arbitration Act 2025 now giving emergency arbitrators express statutory powers (including issuing enforceable peremptory orders and authorizing applications to court).

Interim relief in cross-border disputes has become increasingly complex, with English, DIFC, Russian and French courts issuing anti-suit and anti-anti-suit injunctions in parallel proceedings. Recent UK decisions – especially in Russia-related cases – show that courts are navigating difficult questions about comity, contractual rights, and the practical consequences of foreign sanctions. This makes interim relief, especially in the context of anti-suit injunctions, a rapidly evolving and highly relevant topic.
