Abang & Co

Abang Iwawan is the Managing Partner of Abang & Co, where his practice focuses on international arbitration and both contentious and non-contentious infrastructure-related matters across Asia. He has sat as sole arbitrator and acts primarily as counsel in complex, high-value matters involving energy (including renewables), water and waste management, utilities, mixed-use development, transportation and heavy industry.

He is the Chairperson of the Bar Council Arbitration & Construction Law Committee, and International Chamber of Commerce Young Arbitration & ADR Forum (ICCYAAF) Regional Representative for South Asia (2024–2026). He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and is an empanelled arbitrator with the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) and Borneo International Centre for Arbitration & Mediation (BICAM).

Beyond his commercial practice, Abang Iwawan is active in legal and policy work on sustainable development, climate change and human rights. He currently serves as the Deputy Chair of the Bar Council Human Rights Committee and represented the Malaysian Bar at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva for the 4th Cycle of the Universal Periodic Review.
