Ramy BASSILY

Ramy Bassily is a Partner at Lead up, where his practice centres on high stakes international commercial and investment arbitration across major arbitral institutions and procedural frameworks. He has acted in proceedings under ICC, ICSID, LCIA, AAA, CRCICA, DIAC, ADCCAC, UNCITRAL and ad hoc rules, and his work spans a broad range of sectors, including banking, construction, infrastructure, energy, distribution, defence and telecommunications. Ramy is regularly instructed in complex, multi jurisdictional disputes involving overlapping substantive laws, particularly those of the Middle East and North Africa, and matters engaging significant commercial or sovereign interests.

In commercial arbitration, Ramy has represented clients in technically and commercially demanding disputes arising from large scale infrastructure projects, the construction of industrial and energy facilities, long term gas supply and pricing arrangements, and commercial relationships requiring the application of diverse legal traditions, including Sharia principles. His investment arbitration work includes acting for both States and investors in treaty based disputes across sectors such as infrastructure, telecommunications, cement and industrial production, and natural resources.

Ramy also serves as an arbitrator, frequently sitting as arbitrator in cases involving construction contracts, service agreements, sale and purchase arrangements, real estate disputes, and investment or operational management contracts.

He is admitted to practise in Egypt and works in Arabic, English and French. Ramy plays an active role in advancing arbitration practice as Vice President of Club de l’Arbitrage and Cairo Hub Co Leader of ArabArb.
