James McKenzie is a Partner in our International Arbitration and Energy Disputes practices who resolves high-stakes disputes arising from major global projects and investments.

James has represented clients in international arbitrations under the LCIA, ICC, HKIAC, SIAC, UNCITRAL and CIETAC rules across the major arbitration seats. He is also experienced in complex cross-border litigation, including recognition and enforcement proceedings, and alternative dispute resolution.

He has been recognised in Legal 500 and Chambers for both international arbitration and commercial litigation. Legal 500 has commended him as an “infrastructure, energy and renewables sector expert” and he has been praised by clients as “first rate”, “excellent”, possessing “masterful drafting skills” and being “very knowledgeable and commercially focused”.

James advises across the full project life cycle, from inception to completion, and is particularly skilled in early project risk management and dispute avoidance. He has deep sector experience in energy (renewables, oil & gas and nuclear), construction and infrastructure and has successfully represented clients in the resources and mining, telecoms, technology and life sciences sectors.

Having worked in Hong Kong and Mainland China for more than 8 years, James has particular experience acting in disputes in Asia Pacific and clients benefit from his deep understanding of that region. James has also supported his clients in their disputes in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. James is qualified in England & Wales, Hong Kong, and Australia.
