Montek MAYAL
Montek Mayal is a Partner at Osborne Partners, and Practice Head for Asia and the Middle East. Prior to joining Osborne Partners, Montek was a Senior Managing Director in FTI’s Economic and Financial Consulting segment. Montek founded and led FTI’s Economic Consulting and International Arbitration practice in India having joined in November 2009 as a Research Analyst.
Montek graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from Colgate University. Montek has 15 years of experience in providing expert services in the assessment of quantum, financial, economic and valuation issues in contentious and non-contentious matters. He has a broad range of experience in issues including valuation of businesses and shares in relation to intellectual property disputes and valuations, shareholder and joint venture disputes, private equity investments, investment treaty claims, competition and anti-trust matters, calculation of lost profits and wasted costs, spectrum auctions and market, financial and economic analysis, research and study. He has developed and designed a number of quantitative models to value and forecast different aspects of businesses. His industry experience encompasses energy and power products, consumer and branded goods, real estate, hospitality, industrial gases, oil and gas, mining, petrochemicals, diversified and industrial materials, TMT, financial services, travel, and aviation, among others.
Montek has been appointed as an expert in domestic and international arbitrations and in competition matters, in India as well as globally. He has testified before tribunals on numerous occasions (50 times) since 2017 on claims ranging from USD 5 million to over USD 2.0 billion and has worked on over 100 expert matters.
He is a CFA and CVA Charterholder. Montek was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration and Finance Management (approved by the Government of India) for his work and contributions to the fields of corporate finance, economics and business .He current holds or has held various positions at various institutions, including: South Asia representative for Young ICCA, Vice Chairman of the Society of Construction Law in India, Member, Steering Committee, Young MCIA, Co-Chair, Society of Construction Law’s Young Leaders Group (India), visiting faculty at various institutions and universities (including ICAI), and Member, Founding working group, Indian Association of Litigation Finance. He previously served on the board of a venture with Intel Capital in the field of robotic surgeries in India and as the interim CEO for a major travel services company.
