Nicolas MICHON


Conseiller référendaire (junior justice)

Mr. Michon is currently a conseiller référendaire (junior justice) on the Cour de cassation, criminal panel, 4th section (economic and financial crime).

A 1998 graduate of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), he studied on the Cornell / Paris I JD/maîtrise program, earning both degrees (magna cum laude) in 2002. After clerking for the Hon. Reginald C. Lindsay on the U.S. district court for the District of Massachusetts, he joined Debevoise & Plimpton LLP’s litigation department, working first in New York, then in Paris, from 2004 to 2007.

He then joined Accenture’s in-house Litigation department from 2007 to 2010, before working briefly as the Cornell clerk for France’s Conseil d’État (2010-2011) and being admitted to France’s judiciary school (Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature) in 2011. After a first posting as a local court judge (juge d’instance) in Dieppe (2013-2015), he served in the Cour de cassation’s documentation department (2015-2017), and then on the Paris tribunal’s tax and banking law civil panel (2017-2019) and financial crime panels (2019-2021). He joined the Cour de cassation as a conseiller référendaire in 2021, and was first assigned to the criminal panel’s 1st section, which deals mostly with criminal procedure.

He is the author of the following publications:
