Rémi NOUAILHAC

Head of Legal / Sustainability
TotalEnergies SE

At TotalEnergies, Rémi Nouailhac heads the legal team that advises the company on the orientation and legal security of its sustainability and climate‑related communication and strategy.

Informed by fast-evolving ESG litigation trends, his work focuses on aligning emerging regulatory frameworks — including Omnibus, CSDDD, CSRD and Green Claims requirements — with operational practices to ensure consistency, compliance and effective implementation.

He leads the development of internal frameworks, such as anti‑greenwashing guidance, ESG glossaries and the vigilance plan required by French law and oversees their deployment through targeted awareness initiatives.

He supervises the legal review of communications, leveraging AI tools and internal expertise to enhance quality and credibility.

Rémi engages with external stakeholders — regulators, professional associations, advertising oversight bodies, law firms and academics — to foster a shared understanding of regulatory expectations and to prevent goldplating.

He also trains and supports teams to strengthen a common culture, reduce legal risk and reinforce the credibility of the company’s multi‑energy strategy.
