Sir Tim EICKE KCMG KC


Barrister/Arbitrator

Sir Tim is a highly experienced and internationally respected barrister (King’s Counsel) and an arbitrator practising from Essex Court Chambers in London. A dual German/British national, he was called to the Bar in 1993 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2011.

Between September 2016 and September 2025, he was the judge elected in respect of the United Kingdom on the European Court of Human Rights and participated in more than 900 reported judgments, advisory opinions and decisions.

He was knighted in the 2026 New Year’s Honours List for “services to the protection of Human Rights in Europe”.

In 2017, he was awarded an honorary doctorate (LLD (h.c.)) by the University of Dundee.
