Stuart acts as a testifying damages expert primarily on energy and natural resource matters. He has given oral testimony in arbitral hearings over fifteen times. Stuart is recognized as a ‘Global Elite Thought Leader’ in Lexology’s Energy Experts ranking and is ‘Recommended’ in their Arbitration Experts ranking. Lexology states that interviewees praise him as an "incredibly impressive expert" who is "extremely knowledgeable about the issues on which he opines" and is "able to explain highly complex issues in a clear way".

Stuart has assessed damages in investment treaty claims and contractual disputes. These have included expropriation claims, lost profits cases, post-acquisition warranty claims, and fair value determinations. He has also opined on the appropriate increase in cost recovery limits of production sharing contracts, the likelihood that a drilling company could have raised capital during a certain period, the valuation of an oil and gas construction company at its IPO, and on an OPEC member’s forecast oil production. He has been engaged by various parties, either as an advisor or expert determiner, in expert determinations.

Stuart has over 20 years’ experience valuing oil and gas companies including upstream, midstream, downstream and oil service companies. Prior to joining FTI Consulting in 2016, Stuart spent over 20 years as head of research or as an investment analyst at various investment banks where he advised investors and companies on valuation issues. As an analyst he has covered the European Majors, Russian oil and gas companies, African exploration and production companies, Petrobras, and Australian oil and gas companies.
