Former Judge in the International Commercial Chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal - ARA Judge in Lyon Court of Appeal

Judge Fabienne Schaller was President in the International Commercial Chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal (ICCP-CA) until 2025. She handled complex international arbitration and international commercial cases. She is now developing the alternative dispute resolution departement in the Court of Appeal of Lyon (ARA hearings).
Prior to this, she served in the Commercial Division of the Paris Court of Appeal specializing in transport law, unfair competition, agency and wrongful termination of contracts as well as EU Law, and earlier in the white collar crime division of the High Court of Paris.
Between 2008 and 2014, she was assigned to the Ministry of Justice, where she contributed to negotiations of EU directives on procedural safeguards in criminal proceedings and several EU Regulations. She was a member of the CDPC Bureau at the Council of Europe, negotiating international conventions, among which the Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs and the Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence”, also known as the “Istanbul Convention”.
Judge Schaller holds a Master’s degree in law from Paris-Nanterre Law School and an LL.M in Trade Regulation from NYU Law School.
She was admitted to the bar in Paris and New York. After practicing as a lawyer in Paris since 1986 and New York since 1992, namely with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton both in Paris and New York, she joined the Bench in 1997.
She teaches arbitration law at the Ecole de Formation du Barreau (EFB) and Panthéon-Assas-ISIT joint Masters Degree and has been a speaker and moderator in numerous international conferences.
Since 2018, she has been an active member of SIFOCC (Standing International Forum of Commercial Courts) where she was appointed in the Steering Group. She joined the IBA Judges’ Forum in 2024 and the Comité de droit international privé in 2025.
