Yasin EKMEN

Yasin EKMEN serves as the Secretary General of the Istanbul Arbitration Center. He completed his LLB studies in Marmara University, Faculty of Law and his post-graduate studies in International Trade and International Arbitration at the Faculty of Law, University of Cardiff in 2001. He is currently a PhD candidate in the department of International Private Law at Ankara University, Faculty of Law.

Yasin, on returning to Turkey in October 2009, began working for the Union Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), as a legal advisor. During his term at TOBB, he also acted as the Secretary General of the TOBB Arbitration Court. He played an active role in the preparation of the Law on Istanbul Arbitration Center, and the establishment of the Istanbul Arbitration Center. While working at TOBB, he was also a member of the Arbitration Working Group of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Turkey.

He further played an active role in the establishment of the Jerusalem Arbitration Centre, of which the President of TOBB, M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, is the international Chairman.

He is also currently a member of the working committees of the OIC Arbitration Center and Cyprus Arbitration Center projects. In addition, he was appointed by the Ministry of Commerce of the Republic of Turkey to the Working Group on the Protection of Investments in the Mediterranean Sea of the OECD-MENA (Arbitration Subgroup in the Mediterranean).

His thesis was on “The Support of the Courts to Arbitration”, and his PhD studies is also based on arbitration. As an international arbitration expert, Yasin holds various national and international certificates in arbitration and mediation, and is a full member of the Chartered Institutes of Arbitrators.
